Body Image Therapy NYC

Feel More Comfortable in Your Body Without the Pressure to “Love It”

With the shift in seasons, something else tends to shift too.

More plans. More photos. Less clothing.
And often, more awareness of your body.

You might notice your thoughts getting louder, questioning how you look, how you compare, or whether you feel “ready” to be seen.

For some, this comes and goes.
For others, it feels constant like a quiet background conversation that never fully turns off.

  • Body image struggles don’t always look obvious.

They often show up in subtle, everyday ways:

    • Thinking about your body before getting dressed

    • Avoiding certain outfits, photos, or social settings

    • Feeling distracted during plans because of how you look

    • Comparing yourself to others especially online

    • Creating quiet rules around food, exercise, or appearance

    • A constant internal evaluation running in the background

Over time, this can make your body feel less like something you live in
and more like something you’re constantly managing.

  • There’s a lot of messaging around body positivity, encouraging you to love your body as it is.

But if your current experience is discomfort, self-consciousness, or criticism, that expectation can feel like pressure rather than relief.

Because body image isn’t something you can force.

It’s shaped by experiences relationships, environments, comparison, and the messages you’ve absorbed over time.

So instead of trying to jump to self-love, we take a different approach. We take a personalized realistic approach to body image by finding the middle ground rather then jumping to extremes. We also coordinate care with nutritionists and doctors.

  • In therapy, we don’t expect you to suddenly feel confident in your body.

    We start somewhere more realistic:

    • Noticing critical thoughts without automatically believing them

    • Understanding where those thoughts come from

    • Exploring how comparison (especially through social media) impacts you

    • Creating space between you and the “background noise”

    • Finding small moments of neutrality or even ease

    • Understand how your body image developed

    • Explore the emotional experiences underneath self-criticism

    • Identify patterns of comparison and internal pressure

    • Build a more compassionate, steady relationship with yourself

    • Help you feel more grounded in your body not at war with it

    This isn’t about ignoring appearance.

It’s about changing your relationship to it.
